Headlining What’s new in v5
If you want to get the complete low down on what’s included in this release, the What’s new document can be accessed here. I counted over 45+ new features and enhancements which is significant in its self. There is a dedicated veeam.com post that goes into detail about some of the key new features and enhancements. The main features are listed below:
- Enhanced Agent Support (Including managed by Backup & Replication) and Functionality for Windows, Linux and new Mac Agent
- Support for Managing and Reporting on Veeam Backup for AWS and Azure Cloud backups
- Production ready enhanced RESTful APIs v3.1
- Security Enhancements for Password retrieval and Multi-Factor Authentication
- Enhanced Billing and Reporting around Scale Out Backup Repository Object Storage and Insider Protection
Over the next few weeks, i’ll be looking to do a series of posts on all of the above in conjunction with the dedicated feature posts i’ll be doing on Service Provider Features in v11 of Backup & Replication.
Best of the Rest
In addition to the main features above of console v5, there are a number of other less significant, but equally valuable ones. I’ve gone through the What’s New and listed them below, but again, make sure you check out the What’s New to find out about all of them in v5.
Jobs Overview Heatmap Dashboard:
Built to give a Helpdesk type user a quick view easy to view look at the state of all jobs and policies under management.
Acknowledged State:
Monitoring engineers can switch triggered alarms that require more time for troubleshooting to an acknowledged state with some level of description.
New Agent Feature Support:
With the releases last week, there was also new versions of Windows and Linux Agent. With those came new features and enhancements in their own right.. Console v5 is aware of those, such as the new File and Location Exclusion option. These can be set in the Backup Policies
Remote Patching.
This is actually a pretty cool new feature… maybe worthy of a top line shout… now admins have an option to install hotfixes and cumulative patches to managed backup servers remotely. This is pretty huge for Managed Service Providers who have to manage many Backup & Replication server across their client base.
Platform Supportability:
This release also delivers full support for all recently shipping Veeam products including Veeam Backup & Replication 11 Including NAS File Backup, Cloud Connect enhancements and more VMware Cloud Director support and integration as well at more integration with Agent for Microsoft Windows v5. Service providers can continue to use tenants and all users created in VMware Cloud Director for company creation and backup portal user logins.
